What’s New
New features, improvements and fixes in each version of Lens.
iPhone Duo, 13 new languages and smoother tabs
New
- Made for iPhone Duo: the page sits beside a side bar with rounded corners, and the welcome tour, tab switcher, downloads and sheets are all laid out for the bigger screen. Private tabs show Lens’s eyes in the side bar. Turn on Side Bar Matches Website in Settings to give it the page’s colour.
- Reader becomes a book on a half-folded iPhone Duo: two pages side by side, turned with a page curl.
- Lens now speaks 13 more languages: German, Greek, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Turkish, Dutch and Polish. Lens for Mac too.
- Multiple windows on iPad, each with its own tabs. Drag a tab out to open it in a new window.
- Drag and drop: drag tabs, pins, suggested sites or the address in the page menu into other apps. Drop links on the bottom bar to open them in new tabs.
- Send to Mac in the page menu: if you use Lens for Mac, it takes Find on Page’s spot, and Find moves into the list.
- Collapse Toolbar setting: turn it off to keep the bar full size while you scroll.
- On iPad: more of Lens in the menu bar, with Safari’s keyboard shortcuts, and buttons that light up under a trackpad or mouse. Use the arrow keys to move through search suggestions.
Improved
- Smoother tab switcher: swiping, flicking up to close, pulling down to open and pinching are now one fluid move, and cards open centred.
- Search suggestions fit with large text sizes.
- Pin icons: try as many as you like, then tap ✓ to save or ✕ to cancel.
- In landscape on iPhone, the bar runs down the side of the screen.
- On iPad, the Inspector sits along the bottom of the screen, and pins can be rearranged on iPadOS 26 too.
Removed
- Lock to Portrait. On iOS 27.2 it could leave the screen stuck sideways after a fullscreen video. Lens now turns like Safari.
Fixed
- Lens no longer quits at launch on iOS 27 with a keyboard connected.
- Pages keep their sound on silent mode after a video crashes.
Lens for Mac, a welcome tour and a faster Lens
New
- Lens for Mac: a small, free app in your Mac’s menu bar with your iPhone’s pinned sites and open tabs. Click one to open it in your Mac’s browser, whichever it is. No account needed, it uses your iCloud. Testers can get it from TestFlight on their Mac with the same link.
- Send to Mac: send a page to your Mac from the share sheet, or press and hold a link or the address. It waits for you in Lens’s menu on your Mac.
- A welcome tour the first time you open Lens, where you can also choose your search engine. Watch it again any time from Settings.
- Search suggestions have an arrow that fills the suggestion into the search box, so you can keep typing.
- Reload Without Cache, for web developers: touch and hold the reload button in the page menu, or find it in Developer Tools. ⌥⌘R on a keyboard.
- Support Lens with a tip and unlock extra app icons, including two with Lens’s eyes. Coming with the App Store version.
Improved
- Faster and smoother: search, the + button, the page menu and the archive open more quickly, and Lens starts faster.
- A smaller download.
- The archive has two clear lists, Auto-Archived and Manually Closed, and you can clear just the last week or month. History has the same choices.
- A tidier page menu: switches like Block Ads & Trackers, Always Fullscreen and Request Desktop Site sit together under “Settings for This Page”.
- Paste has its own spot when you press and hold the + button.
- Redesigned banners, with icons, for things like Link Copied, Pinned and Sent to Mac.
- Improved accessibility.
- Design updates throughout, in the style of the new welcome tour.
Fixed
- Lock to Portrait now stays on after watching a video fullscreen.
- The keyboard shows up when you open Lens from a Lock Screen button or shortcut.
- On fullscreen sites, tapping the small bar at the bottom brings the full bar back every time.
Translation, history lock, Siri and Lock Screen controls
New
- Lock your history and archived tabs with Face ID.
- Swipe anywhere on a page to go back or forward, not just from the edge. It’s off by default, turn it on in Settings, switch it off for specific websites from the page menu.
- Added Search for history and archived tabs.
- Added app icon shortcuts on your Home Screen. Paste & Search, New Tab and New Private Tab.
- New Tab and New Private Tab controls for Control Center, the Lock Screen and the Action Button.
- Search and Private Search buttons for your Lock Screen, under the clock.
- Siri and Shortcuts actions: New Tab, New Private Tab, Open URL in Lens, Search in Lens and Get Current Page. Ask Siri to open a new tab, a private tab or search in Lens.
- Your pinned sites show up in Spotlight search, and open in a new tab.
- Hide Elements keeps a list of what you’ve hidden, so you can bring any of it back.
- Hide Annoyances: a new switch in Privacy & Security that hides newsletter and “open in app” pop-ups, chat and notification prompts, and social media buttons. It’s off by default.
- A new Closed list in the archive keeps the tabs you close yourself, so you can find and reopen any of them, not just the last one. It sits next to Auto-Archived and History.
Improved
- Improvements to Translate. You can now choose which language pages are translated into, regardless of your iPhone’s settings. There’s a new Translation page in Settings where you can add the languages you read. You can also switch a translated page to another language from the page menu, and only languages Apple can translate are offered.
- Improvements for video feeds like X, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube Shorts.
- The bar above the page takes the page’s colour, as in Safari.
- Developer Tools has a single switch in Settings. Default off for non-dev users, so the page menu stays simple.
- History, Tabs and Downloads clear from a trash button, and pull to refresh works on your other devices’ tabs.
- Your other devices’ tabs open from the button at the top of the tab switcher, on their own page, instead of as a section of the archive.
- Updates and clearer wording in Settings, including “Like Other Tabs” for Close Private Tabs.
- Redesigned error pages.
Fixed
- Fixed an issue that could keep the Translate option from appearing, for example on English pages when your iPhone is set to another language.
- Editing the middle of an address no longer throws the cursor to the end, and undo, dictation and Japanese, Chinese and Korean keyboards work properly in the address bar.
- Closing the language download sheet no longer makes it pop up again and again, and English pages are no longer mistaken for Dutch.
- New tabs always open right after the one they came from.
- Reader themes style only the article and not the entire app.
- Swiping non-center tabs to close is now fixed.
- The Undo button in the tab switcher no longer hides behind the Mini Player.
- Videos on X play again in Low Power Mode, instead of loading forever after you tap them.
Default browser, passkeys and developer tools
Default browser, passwords and passkeys
- Make Lens your default browser. Go to Settings → Set as Default Browser, and links from Mail, Messages and other apps open in Lens.
- Passwords and passkeys work. iCloud Keychain fills your sign-ins, and you can sign in or sign up with a passkey.
- Apple Pay works on websites.
Developer tools
Found in Settings → Developer Tools. Each tool has its own switch, so you can turn off the ones you don’t need.
- Inspector: tap anything on a page to see its size, padding and margin, fonts, colours with a contrast check, tap-target size, accessibility details, attributes and CSS selector. Step out to the parent or back in to a child. Open it by holding the ••• button, or from the page menu.
- Press and hold another element to measure the distance to it. Pause to use the page for a moment, then pick up where you left off.
- Press and hold a link, image or selected text and choose Inspect to start right on it.
- Font Info: select text to see its font, where it comes from, size, weight and colour. Tap any value to copy it, or see every font on the page.
- Page Colors: see every text, background, border and icon colour a page uses, tap one to copy it, or copy them all as CSS variables.
- Image Info: press and hold an image for its real size, format and file size.
- Where Does This Go?: press and hold a link to see where a short link really leads, without opening it.
New
- Request Desktop Site, in the page menu. Lens remembers your choice for each site, including its mobile address.
- Copy as Markdown: on article pages, the share sheet copies the clean article, ready for your notes or an AI chat.
- Print or save as PDF from the share sheet. In Reader, it prints just the article.
- Add to Home Screen from the share sheet, to keep a site like an app.
- Open saved web pages and link shortcuts from Files and Mail.
- Kagi is now a search engine choice, with suggestions as you type.
Improved
- Pull the search suggestions down and the keyboard follows your finger.
- Low Power Mode saves more: videos that start by themselves wait for a tap.
- Smoother scrolling, quicker launch and lighter on battery.
- Hide Elements has round ✕ and ✓ buttons, and taps are no longer missed on pages with moving content.
- Sites ask for your camera or microphone once, not on every visit.
- Addresses on your own network, like 192.168.1.1, open as typed.
- Switches are green on Mac in dark mode.
Fixed
- Pasting no longer asks for permission.
- Picture in Picture no longer starts when you open Control Center.
- Back no longer gets stuck on pages that redirect.
- Searches made in a website’s own search box show properly in History.
A faster tab switcher and the Mini Player
New
- Get to your tabs from anywhere: pinch a page, or swipe up on the + button. Swipe left or right on + to move between open tabs.
- The Mini Player shows what’s playing at the bottom of the screen and follows you as you browse other tabs. Turn it on in Settings.
- Leave a video’s tab and the Mini Player keeps it ready to carry on in the background. Hold the player to jump back to its tab.
- Select text and tap Search, next to Copy, to look it up in a new tab.
- Hold the ••• button for a shortcut to Hide Elements.
Improved
- Links open right next to the tab you’re on.
- Swipe back on a tab with nowhere left to go to close it and return to where you came from.
- Reopen Closed Tab puts the tab back where it was.
- The Mini Player has small bars that move while something plays, steps aside for the keyboard, and takes the place of the fullscreen and Picture in Picture buttons.
- Tabs stay centred in the switcher while the Mini Player is showing.
- Downloads stay visible all the way into the Downloads button.
- A refreshed app icon.
Fixed
- Closing a tab stops its video and Picture in Picture, in private tabs too.
- Websites’ own tab bars no longer appear in the middle of the screen.
Meet Lens
The first beta of Lens: a fast, light and truly private browser for iPhone and iPad, built natively with Liquid Glass. No account, no ads and no data collected, in an app under 5 MB.
Search first
- Lens opens ready to search, with suggestions as you type and your pinned sites as tiles above them.
- Hold a suggestion to pin it, drag pins to reorder them, and give each one its own icon.
- Choose your search engine, with a plain note on how private each one is.
- Hold the + button or the address field to Paste and Search.
Private by design
- Blocks ads, trackers, cookie banners and most pop-ups, with lists that update daily.
- Removes tracking from the links you open, and HTTPS-Only mode keeps connections secure. Tap the lock in the page menu to see a site’s connection and certificate details.
- Private tabs never touch your storage: nothing is saved, cookies live in memory and are erased when you close them. Lock them with Face ID.
- Forget This Website clears everything one site has stored, from logins to the counters some sites use to limit free articles.
- Lens collects nothing about you: no account, no analytics, no tracking.
Tabs that stay tidy
- A tab switcher that snaps into place, with cards you can flick away.
- Tabs you haven’t used in 24 hours move to the Archive, so the switcher stays clean. Choose anything from 12 hours to 30 days.
- Hold a link to peek at it. Scroll the preview, then open it as a tab or in the background.
- Hold the back and forward arrows to see a tab’s history.
Made for reading
- Reader, Find on Page and page zoom.
- Hide Elements: tap anything on a page to remove it for good. Goodbye, Shorts.
- Translate pages on your device.
- Fullscreen browsing: the toolbar slips away as you scroll and comes back with a tap.
- A proper downloads manager. Downloads keep going in the background, resume if interrupted and are saved where you can find them in Files.
Works with everything else
- iCloud Passwords, one-time codes, AutoFill and Wallet passes.
- iCloud sync for pins, tabs, history and settings, end-to-end encrypted.
- Handoff, plus desktop websites, menu bar items and keyboard shortcuts on iPad and Mac.
